Meeting Jane Campion: a cannes legend
I apologize for the lack of blog posts I will be updating my blogs now that I have consistent Internet connection of the remaining experiences at cannes. Jane Campion is a New Zealand director that is most well known for her movie 'The Piano.' She Is a legend of sorts at Cannes considering she is the only female to have won the Palme D'or (grand prize at the festival) and she has won it twice!!! This year at Cannes she is the director of the grand jury of the Short films at cannes, Spielberg's counterpart in a way.
I had the privilege of getting to sit in on a Q&A session with her and gained some absolutely amazing insight. Her charm competes with if not exceeds that of "Lucky the Leprechaun"
She spent a lot of time answering questions about how to gain production within short films and how to do it well. The one statement that she said that stuck out with me the most was about attaining a voice as a director.
If you're going to come out talking you better be screaming. - Jane Campion
After the Q&A I had the chance to go up afterwards and talk to the lady and thank her for her time , she closed with a "Your Welcome" a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Her talk and answers has been one of the most inspirational and best part of Cannes. Even though she is Spielberg's counterpart and she is a very impressive gal to meet let it be known that I am still Seeking Spielberg.
